PS5 turns on but no signal: the HDMI port and how it's repaired

If your PS5 powers on, the light turns white and it sounds normal but the TV says "no signal", the culprit is almost always a damaged HDMI port. It's one of the most common console repairs we do at Plaza Carolina: the port is replaced on the board with precision soldering and the console displays again.

It's a scene that repeats in homes across Carolina: the PS5 powers on, the controller connects, you can even hear the system sound, but the TV stays black with a "no signal" message. Before you assume the console is dead, read this. In most cases the problem is a single part, and it's repairable.

First, rule out what isn't the console

Before bringing it in, run these quick tests:

1. Swap the HDMI cable. Cables fail internally, especially if they're bent sharply behind the TV stand.
2. Try a different HDMI input on the TV, and confirm the TV is set to that input.
3. Try the console on a different TV if you can.
4. Look into the console's port with a light. If you see bent pins, a broken center tab or the cable sits loose and wiggles, you have your answer.

If there's still no picture with a different cable, input and TV, the problem is in the PS5.

Why the PS5 HDMI port fails so often

The HDMI port is soldered directly to the console's board and it's the connection that takes the most force:

• Cable tugs when someone trips or moves the TV stand.
• Frequent plugging and unplugging (switching TVs, taking it to a friend's house).
• Heavy cables or adapters left hanging that act as a lever.
• Drops with the cable still plugged in.

Over time, the internal pins bend or the solder joining the port to the board cracks. The result is the same: the console works, but the video signal never makes it out.
